Basic Causes of Dry Skin
Dry skin can be caused by Internal and/or External Factors. There are several Internal factors that can greatly contribute to dry skin; Dehydration: Many people do not drink an adequate amount of water in a day. This can increase the risk of dry skin. While one is healing their dry skin they should drink extra water to promote faster healing. Hormones and Age: As one’s body changes many imbalances in the body can develop, including hormone imbalance as well as metabolic changes. These changes greatly affect ones skin. External Factors, as well as Extreme Weather Conditions and Over-Exposure to the Sun, are Chemicals, Soaps and Detergents which are the primary external reasons for Dry Skin. The unsuspecting villain however of many Skin Outbreaks and Dermatitis is plain ole SOAP. Most people wash their hands with soap 3X a day and most soaps have a high PH level of 8 to 11. Our outer layer of skin operates best with its PH between 4.0 to 6.0 so that using these high PH level soaps may clean the skin but also dry it out as well. It would be better if one could clean their skin using whole oats by wrapping a hand full of whole oats in a cheese cloth or fine netting, tied with a string or rubber band. Soak the bag for 15 minutes before use. Use whole oats in the bathtub by bathing with it in cool or warm (never hot) water.
